Professor crispian scully cbe elected president of the international academy of oral oncology

Professor Crispian Scully has been elected President of the International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO) at the Singapore Congress in July.

Professor Scully published a seminal paper in the Lancet in 1983 on the association of herpesvirus with lip cancer, subsequently working on human papillomavirus (HPV) in oral cancer, and promoting the concept of cancer as a sexually shared infection. The current epidemic of oropharyngeal cancer in young people in now recognized as related to HPV infection rather than the well-recognized risk factors of tobacco and alcohol.

Professor Scully also founded the successful journal Oral Oncology; is advisor to the Oral Cancer Foundation; and has recently published with Healthcare Learning (Smile-on) a DVD on Oral Cancer, and has >200 papers on cancer cited on MEDLINE, >100 original research papers on cancer, and has published >25 chapters on cancer in books.
