Professor Sir Nairn Wilson

Professor Nairn Wilson CBE, a long-standing author of papers for Dental Update (including those in the 40th and 50th Anniversary issues), has been appointed Knight Bachelor in King Charles III's first Birthday Honours list. He is thought to be the first dental professional to be made a Knight Bachelor since Sir Ian Gainsford in 1995. His citation reads ‘Honorary Founding President, College of General Dentistry. For services to dentistry.’ In that regard, his many services to dentistry include Dean and Head of the King's College Dental Institute, Dean of Manchester University Dental Hospital and subsequently, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Manchester, Editor of the Journal of Dentistry, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, President of the British Dental Association, President of the General Dental Council, and, most recently, Honorary Founding President (now President Emeritus) of the College of General Dentistry.

The Editorial Board of Dental Update wish to congratulate Sir Nairn on this richly deserved recognition of his wide-ranging contribution to dentistry during his 50-year career.

Congratulations to Dr Pynadath George

Readers may be interested to know that Editorial Board member, Dr Pynadath George, has recently been elected as President Elect of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI).

In that regard, the ADI is the UK's national organization for implant dentistry. Its raison d'etre centres around contributing to the field of dental implants, facilitating both professional and patient education. Although the ADI has evolved significantly over 35 years from a small study group in 1987, one thing has remained the same – its passion to support professional education and share the science behind dental implants. The ADI has always advocated evidence-based treatment and related science, ultimately enhancing access to high-quality, safe and effective dental implant treatment for more patients.

Congratulations are indeed due to Dr George.
