Abstract: Interactions between systemic and oral diseases have been investigated in many contexts. This is a narrative review discussing the impact of several systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus, on non-surgical endodontic treatment outcomes. There is currently a lack of conclusive evidence to support links between systemic disease and endodontic outcomes. Further high-quality research is needed for systemic disease to be reliably considered a prognostic factor.

Clinical relevance: If systemic disease is found to impact upon non-surgical endodontic treatment outcomes, dentists could learn essential information regarding the prognosis of endodontic treatment by looking at a patient’s medical history.
